About Second Helping Nwa
If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.
-Mother Teresa
The Second Helping NWA Story
It was a desire to feed people coupled with a desire to fill a need that birthed Secondhand Smoke and Second Helping NWA. Secondhand Smoke is where food intersects with community-it is the foundation. Our foundation is rooted in connecting not just to, but within the community to feed people. It started out of a desire to provide food to anyone for any occasion.
The opportunities to provide food through Secondhand Smoke quickly became opportunities to engage in conversations about community and the underlying obstacles that plagued community residents. Woven within these conversations was a need that revealed itself-this need centered around food insecurity.
It was Secondhand Smoke that sparked the development of our non-profit Second Helping NWA. It powers the work that is able to be done, the people we are able to touch, and the development of other efforts that push forward the mission of Second Helping NWA; to feed those experiencing food insecurity.
Support for Secondhand Smoke translates to support for Second Helping NWA. A portion of proceeds from Secondhand Smoke are repurposed to further support Second Helping NWA. This means when you purchase meals from Secondhand Smoke or when you utilize catering services from Secondhand Smoke, you are powering the work of Second Helping NWA.
The support we have been extended from various sources throughout the region are the gas that makes the car move. We could not do what we do without the magnificent community support. Our rationale is simple: If you are in need of a meal, we will feed you.

Local Involvement
We live in a great place. Northwest Arkansas is home for me, and I couldn't be more proud of Fayetteville. This region has supported our cause from the beginning, it's one of many reasons why I love this area!
Support Local
Community support is the ultimate indicator of a good thing. When we take the time to intentionally place our dollars within the community, it helps us all create a place we love and enjoy.
Support Comes in Many Ways
In-kind donations are welcome!
Food is our focus, however, there are other components necessary to creating a quality eating experience.
Dinnerware and tableware including but not limited to utensils (forks, spoons, knives, plates, cups, bowls etc), are essential to serving, feeding, and eating. We welcome your support via in-kind donations as such.
If you have items that contribute to overall experience of eating, items that can help drive our mission please reach out.

Money Flows Clockwise
Your monetary donations go a long way.
The saying goes “It takes a village”, and our village is one that consists of various people committed to serving the community and helping Second Helping NWA fine tune its efforts.
Not only do monetary donations help us continue the work we do in the community, they help us to support those who play roles behind the scenes! These people are the building blocks.
From the volunteer coordinators who help organize volunteers, to the photographers who help share and document the work we do, and everyone in between-we mean it when we say this is a community effort.
Your monetary donations don’t stop with Second Helping NWA, they extend into the community to support local service providers who play a pivotal role in helping us expand our reach.

Second Helping NWA’ s mission to feed the community directly impacts food insecurity. We want to ensure those who need food in our area receive a meal. Your donations go to support this mission.
We Can Help Stop Food Waste
One way we have been able to really support our mission is by repurposing items gathered from local residents, businesses, and organizations who no longer need them. Northwest Arkansas residents and businesses waste 80,000 tons of food each year according to the Northwest Arkansas Council. Utilizing their unwanted items is an opportunity to reduce waste in a safe, meaningful way.
With a population of 563,400 and growing 32 people a day, Northwest Arkansas is growing faster than 96 of the nation’s 100 largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas, according to the Northwest Arkansas Council.
If you have unwanted items and are looking for ways to give back to your community, your donations will be greatly appreciated. If you know someone who is in need of our services please reach out.
